The public interface gives access to the electronic information resources and services of libraries, archives and museums. The Web service will available for all in 2011.
The public interface is aimed at everyone, whether they are searching for information or experiences. The Web service makes it easy to gain access to materials on any given subject matter, such as pictures, documents, newspapers, research, video and audio recordings.
Through the public interface, the materials of libraries, archives and museums come to form a whole. The information seeker no longer needs to know who owns or manages the materials. It is enough to want to gain knowledge or experiences.
The information resources from various organisations can be found in one service and with one search. It helps information seekers not only to find the information they need but also other pertinent information. Thanks to the integrated services, the user can also receive the electronic services connected with the materials from the same address.
Even in its earliest stage, the Web service will comprise over 100,000 museum pieces and photographs, over one million pages of old newspapers, over 20,000 scientific journals, over 300,000 e-books, hundreds of thousands of documents and reference and availability information of 30 million items in public and scientific libraries.
Users can supplement the information by adding their own keywords or ratings. This social metadata can be used to support search. Users can also offer organisations providing the content reference or object specific additional information and thus improve the reliability and information value of the material.
The achievements of culture and science are waiting to be discovered!
